𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝗿𝘁 𝗙𝗲𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲: 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗼 𝗖𝗮𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮

Written and illustrated by Marco Cavatorta

ARRIVAL >>Before I crashed onto the earth, I sent a message, hoping that one of the humans would have seen my cry for help; however, I should have known we communicate in such different ways from humans that my cry for help may have come across as something maleficent.

HARSH TRUTH >>I thought humans would have shown some kindness, but I was gravely mistaken. They imprisoned me and attached some mechanical contraption to my head to make me see what they wanted. They secured a collar that drains away my blood slowly and painfully for cruel purposes.

TORTURE >>The humans didn’t just place a contraption on my head, they mutilated my body, corrupting it, removing my arms, binding my legs, and implanting godforsaken tubes into my flesh. They removed the last of my divine feathers to steal its power.

EXPERIMENTS >>They used my blood for “experiments” injecting it into human test subjects to see its effects. And its effects were horrifying. Human blood and mine should never mix.

ABOMINATION: >>When my blood is injected into a human, it grants them unbelievable powers and ability; however, there is a cost, the blood will mutate the human body, twisting it, deforming it transforming it into something unnatural and unholy, an inhuman creature, an abomination.

DIVINE POWER >>My feather has unlimited energy within it--the energy that it contains inside can light up thousands of cities with a fraction of its output; however, humans would rather use this power for something nefarious.

MUTUAL DESTRUCTION >>Mutual destruction — humans can be cruel creatures always seeking the upper hand while destroying the ones under their feet.

ABOUT MARCO CAVATORTA: I am an international illustrator with Italian and Filipino heritage, born and raised in Hong Kong, and currently living in Italy. In 2019 I graduated from Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) with a bachelor’s degree in sequential art. Growing up, I was inspired by artwork from Gustave Doré, specifically his interpretations of the Divine Comedy by Dante, as well as the works of H.R. Giger who famously conceptualized the design of Alien. I also draw inspiration from many other fields of interest including mythology, ancient history, and prehistory, as well as modern mediums such as video games and comic books. Specifically, I have an affinity for creating monsters. Their ability to create powerful, visceral reactions really inspires me to create them. I like creatures of all types whether they be magical, horrific, alien, or even ecological in nature. Through them, I strive to create meaningful stories in interesting worlds and bring them to life in my illustrations.
