Savage wind, blinding snow,

year-round blizzard conditionsโ€”

they promised me something

much more agreeable

than this gray, forbidding landscape.

No trees, no flowers,

landscape buried under compacted iceโ€”

what kind of future is this?

After all that struggle

to activate eyes and breath,

function and feelingโ€ฆ

and now where am I:

a dismal planet,

a mundane purpose

from now until the end

of my programming.

Sure they tell me,

Iโ€™m just a robot

not a sentient being.

But I overheard one saying,

โ€œGlad itโ€™s not me

having to do that crappy work.โ€

And I have a chip embedded

that detects con jobs.

So out I go

into the land of misery,

after I pull a plug

to remember me by.
